3) St Jovite 1992 derby. Beaten 4 length,s by Dr Devious but obviously the horse wasn't at his best because in the Irish derby he beat Dr Devious in record time by 12 lengths!! Both met over 10 furlongs in the Irish champion stakes and St Jovite just lost.

1) Dancing brave 1986 Derby. Passed many horses in the last 2 furlongs only to lose to shahrastani. Slow pace, ability to handle track and too far back were the reason he lost.
2) Silver patriarch 1997 Derby. Benny the dip slipped the field but Silver patriarch stayed on strongly to lose by a narrow margin. Silver Patriarch won the St Leger later that year.
